Shiseido Buys Drunk Elephant for $845 Million, PopSugar Sold for Stock

Shiseido Buys Drunk Elephant (Business of Fashion)
Shiseido has bought the clean beauty brand Drunk Elephant for $845 million. The deal, which is financed in both cash and credit, is expected to close by the end of the year. Founded in 2012, Drunk Elephant has seen tremendous in the skincare market, with CEO Tim Warner estimating in 2018 that the brand was “on track” to bring in yearly net sales “well in excess of $100 million.”

PopSugar Has a New Owner (WWD)
In other merger news, Group Nine Media has bought PopSugar in an all-stock deal. The amount of the acquisition has not been disclosed.  “[PopSugar] hugely expands our reach within an important demographic,” explains Ben Lerer, Group Nine’s CEO. “Bringing us a community that deeply loves the brand and a company with the proven ability to diversify their revenue across premium advertising, affiliate, direct-to-consumer commerce, licensing and experiential channels.”

Adidas Partners With Universal Standard on Size-Inclusive Collection (The Cut)
Adidas is releasing a capsule collection with Universal Standard that ranges in size from XXS to 4XL. “There’s this kind of Marie Antoinette attitude towards larger sizes,” Alexandra Waldman, co-founder of Universal Standard, tells The Cut. “It’s like, Oh, someone’s already made their size. Let them have that… [with this collection] you can buy great workout gear and look like you’re taken seriously by the activewear industry. It’s not just an old pair of whatever stretches, and an oversized T-shirt.” The capsule, priced between $40 to $90, is available online now.

Virgil Abloh Designed Hailey Bieber’s Wedding Dress
Hailey Bieber wore a custom Off-White dress designed by Virgil Abloh for her wedding on September 30th. The ivory white gown had long sleeves, and featured lace and pearl embellishments. Ever one to turn tradition on its head with a bit of humor, Abloh added “TILL DEATH DO US PART” on the dress’s tulle train in his trademark block lettering. Meanwhile, Justin Bieber’s stylist, Karla Welch, revealed on Instagram that he wore a custom Celine suit designed by Hedi Slimane.

ROAM Launches a Pop-Up In Bloomingdales
Premium luggage brand ROAM is launching its first-ever retail store through a pop-up at Bloomingdales. The ROAM Shop will open on the 7th floor of the department store’s 59th Street flagship location in NYC, giving shoppers a chance to experience the brand’s unique customizations options in person. “Their nearly infinite customization options, go-anywhere durability, and made-in-the-US construction really set them apart from the competition,” says Dan Leppo, EVP GMM of men’s and home at Bloomingdale’s. “We know our guests will be drawn to this first ever shop because of the absolutely incredible quality and ability to personalize each piece.
