Matcha-dipped croissants, beet lattes, elderflower cocktails, a personalized calligraphy station, and above all, the most beautiful childrenswear collection in town — all of these treats awaited guests at a private penthouse in the Puck Building on Tuesday afternoon, where designer Brittany Peltz Buerstedde unveiled her new line, Leah + Rae. Hosted by Harper’s Bazaar’s Kerry Pieri, the well-heeled crowd included Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Leslie Fremar, Violet Gaynor, Sara Larson, Daphne Oz, Stephanie Newhouse, Nicola Peltz, Carol Alt, and Whitney Vargas, who enjoyed breathtaking views of Manhattan while selecting some new looks for the little ones in their lives.
For her debut collection, Peltz Buerstedde was inspired by the luxury and ease of the South of France, where she spent her childhood summers and now travels with her young daughters. “I just loved the sense of classic beauty and timelessness — the soft color palette, which is highlighted with handmade details,” says Peltz Buerstedde, who produces her pieces in the United States using beautiful fabrics from Paris.
With prices ranging from $40 to $150, each piece is (thankfully) machine-washable, and as of this fall, Leah + Rae’s sizes will encompass everything from birth to a size ten. No wonder that many styles in the collection are rapidly selling out. In fact, one determined three-year-old marched her mother directly over to the minimalist and elegant Sunset dress and said, “Mommy, may I please have this one?” Her request was granted immediately, and the girl returned to a game station to color in her own superhero mask. “I can’t wait to send her to school in something other than a glittery leotard and light-up
shoes,” said the mother with a laugh. “Kids are naturally so beautiful and pure on their own,” says Peltz Buerstedde of her aesthetic. “I don’t think they need to wear so many loud, bold statements. Their beauty alone speaks volumes.”
