Cannes Bans Selfies Ahead of 2018 Film Festival (Deadline)
Cannes Film Festival chief Thierry Frémaux told Deadline today that the festival will ban all red carpet selfies at this year’s event. “With (festival president) Pierre Lescure, we decided to totally ban them. At the top of the red carpet the triviality and slowdown of flow provoked by the disorder of selfies ruins the quality of the red carpet, and thus the festival entirely.” The festival has previously voiced a distaste for selfies, but this is the first time it has officially banned them.

Christian Siriano Spent $50,000 to FedEx Oscar Dresses This Year (Page Six)
Yesterday, during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Michelle Collins Show,” designer Christian Siriano revealed that he spent close to $50,000 shipping dresses to LA for this year’s Academy Awards. “Most [stylists] don’t have a budget for shipping,” he said, so he foots the cost for his pieces to get exposure. Indeed, most celebrity stylists actually lose money during awards season, with shipping being one of their biggest costs. Siriano estimates that he probably sent close to 100 pieces to LA for consideration by various stylists and celebrities at a cost of up to $2,000 per package for overnight shipping.

The Fall 2018 Runways Were the Most Race- and Transgender-Inclusive Ever (The Fashion Spot)
During the Fall 2018 season, more women of color walked the runway than ever before, according to a new report from The Fashion Spot. Out of 242 shows and 7,608 model appearances in New York, London, Milan and Paris, 32.5 percent of castings went to models of color, a 2.3 point increase from spring 2018’s 30.2 percent. At the same time, 64 transgender women and non-binary models (56 transgender, 8 non-binary) walked in 52 shows, another record.

Sudanese model Anok Yai, who was raised in the United States after arriving as a refugee in 2000, became the first black model to open a Prada runway show in more than 20 years. The last being Naomi Campbell in 1997. (FirstVIEW)

Conversely, Fall 2018 saw a regression in plus-size castings with a total of 30 plus-size models walking in all four cities this season — eight castings shy of last season’s figure, but on par with Fall 2017.

Instagram Is Making Your Feed More Chronological Again
In a statement issued yesterday, Instagram announced two big changes based on user feedback. “We’ve heard it can feel unexpected when your feed refreshes and automatically bumps you to the top. So today we’re testing a ‘New Posts’ button that lets you choose when you want to refresh, rather than it happening automatically… We’re also making changes to ensure that newer posts are more likely to appear first in feed… So if your best friend shares a selfie from her vacation in Australia, it will be waiting for you when you wake up.”

Vanessa Trump Was Named Most Likely to “Get a Divorce” in High School (The New York Times)
Senior superlatives, amiright? According to the New York Times, Vanessa Trump (nee Haydon), soon to be ex-wife of elephant-hunter Donald Trump Jr., was voted most likely to “get a divorce” in her high school yearbook. Vanessa attended the prestigious Dwight School on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, where her classmates also voted her most likely to “be on Ricki Lake.” (Probably to talk about that divorce, right?)
