Naomi Campbell to Receive 2018 CFDA Fashion Icon Award

by Charles Manning

Naomi Campbell will receive the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award at this year’s Fashion Awards and, honestly, could there be anyone more deserving?

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon award,” Campbell told the CFDA.  “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers that have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”

Campbell joins a list of past recipients that includes superstars Beyonce Knowles and Rihanna. That list also includes Johnny Depp, so, you know, it’s sort of a mixed bag, but Naomi Campbell is a goddess and deserves all the awards the fashion industry has to bestow.

Campbell has appeared on over 500 magazine covers throughout her long and illustrious career. She was the first black model on the cover of Time and French Vogue, and she was one of the original five supermodels who appeared in George Michael’s 1990 “Freedom” music video.

“From enfant prodige to Goddess of Fashion,” CFDA Chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg said, “Naomi represents beauty, activism and joie de vivre.”

Here, here! Congratualtions, Naomi. You earned it, gurl.
