The A list cast of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever were in town on Tuesday evening as The Cinema Society & Origin hosted a VIP screening of the hotly-anticipated new Marvel flick. Afterwards, the film’s director Ryan Coogler and stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Tenoch Huerta went across town and all the way up to take it all in for the after party at Peak Restaurant—101 stories high at Edge Hudson Yards.
The screening at AMC Theater on 34th street, which welcomed luminaries from the worlds of entertainment, fashion, modeling, broadcasting, and more, introduced audiences to where the franchise left off. The movie emotively begins in the wake of King T’Challa’s death (actor Chadwick Boseman tragically passed away due to colon cancer in 2020), and follows the powerful Wakandans fight to protect their kingdom and its elusive natural resource. Actress Letitia Wright, who plays Princess Shuri, steps into her own in the film as her character takes the spotlight, while fan favorites Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Duke Winston, and Danai Gurira reprise their roles. This time around, Tenoch Huerta Mejía is also introduced as Namor, the relentless king of a secret undersea nation, and judging by his spellbinding performance, it won’t be the last Black Panther fans hear of him.
Among those in attendance alongside Coogler and the cast were Whoopi Goldberg, Gayle King, Queen Latifah, Busta Rhymes, Alan Cumming, Jon Batiste, Padma Lakshmi, Nicole Ari Parker, Amber Ruffin, Maxwell, Marcus Samuelsson, Sherri Shepherd, Lorraine Toussaint, Noma Dumezweni, Jennifer Esposito & Jesper Vesterstroem, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Prabal Gurung, Jeremy O. Harris, Jill Hennessy, Sunny Hostin, Liya Kebede, Tory Kittles, Shawn Levy, Amir Arison, Michael Aronov, Justin Bartha, Mehcad Brooks, Joseph Michael Cross, Mike Doyle, Johnathan Fernandez, Joyelle Johnson, Zainab Jah, HRH Queen Diambi of the Congo, Erica Reid, Leon Robinson, Cynthia Rowley, Eric Rutherford, Valerie Simpson, Pritika Swarup, Sophie Sumner, V (formerly Eve Ensler), Elaine Welteroth & Jonathan Singletary, Malik Yoba, Wale, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Leopoldo Gout, The-Dream, June Ambrose, Pat Cleveland, Johannes Huebl, Alex Lundqvist, Dale Moss, and Cinema Society founder Andrew Saffir.
