Alexander Wang Spring 2015

by Daniel Chivu

Forget simply outfitting his models in sneakers on the runway: Alexander Wang took the casual kicks conceit that’s ruled the runways as of late from head to toe, whipping up streamlined looks inspired by iconic sportif wear. To wit: a cluster of green leather collared all-white looks that looked tennis court bound (with a little saucy nurse tossed in) riffed on Adidas Stan Smiths. Wang delivered, per usual, on the tech-y textural front, which reflected the sneaker theme in a few body con, flouncy-hemmed noir dresses riddled with swoops of neon detailing. For the all-black, all the time Wang girls, there was plenty to add to the rotation, while a spate of monochrome gray getups was a surprising and lovely palate cleanser between the punchier, color-saturated sneaker-inspired looks.  Cut outs and asset-flaunting halter necks might’ve looked a bit tarty in another designer’s hands, but Wang’s take on things looked sleek and kind of mesmerizing. Those pattern-laced, vibrant clutches looked positively aerodynamic; expect them to will fly off shelves, as a Wang bag tends to do. All in all? A slam dunk.
