Lauren McCarthy has moved into the mighty Hearst Tower, taking up the post of fashion news and features editor at Harper’s Bazaar, following the departure of Christine Whitney, who in June relocated to L.A. to join beauty site Violet Grey as senior editor. The Daily checks in…
Congrats on the new role…
Thanks, it feels great—I’m so excited to be part of the Harper’s Bazaar team.
What attracted to you Bazaar?
I’ve always been a fan because they have a strong editorial point of view that comes across on every single page. I’m looking forward to being a part of that voice.
Who has great style?
All the usual suspects—Diane Kruger, Sofia Coppola, Cate Blanchett. It’s a cliché, but whatever. I also love Lorde because I am powerless to any semblance of teen angst.
When you’re not doing the fashion rounds, where will we find you?
I live on the Upper East Side, which has a lot of great restaurant options on 2nd Ave. and two especially good consignment shops, the names of which I do not know…and if I did, I would not share. At night, I always seem to end up in Brooklyn, at places like Good Co. in Williamsburg. More often than not, though, you can find me on my couch, watching TV and reading things online.
What’s on heavy rotation in your wardrobe?
Jeans, striped shirts, and ankle boots.
Champagne, Chablis, or shiraz?
Champagne.
