Kate Spade and Leandra Medine Cohen’s Chic Rooftop Dinner Was Full of Backyard Games and Glittering Conversation

On Wednesday evening, Kate Spade designer Nicola Glass and Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine Cohen hosted a bright and festive “backyard” party on the rooftop of the William Valle hotel, on North 12th Street in Williamsburg.

The evening began with cocktails, featuring a quartet of fruity popsicles in champagne, and delicious passed hors d’oeuvres. “I’m not sure what I just ate, but it was amazing” said one guest as she contemplated the deep-fried something in her mouth. It was a chicken nugget and it really was delicious, as were the mini lobster rolls, both very much in keeping with the relaxed backyard ambiance of the event.

Also on-theme were the classic backyard games like corn hole and ring toss, both of which were given the full Kate Spade treatment with the help of some pastel paint and a flock of potted flamingoes.

Notable guests included Beanie Feldstein, Aya Cash, Zosia Mamet, Lindsay Ellingson, Cat Cohen, Julia Schlaepfer, and Natalie and Dylana Suarez.

Following the cocktail hour, guests were treated to a delicious three course meal, which was honestly too delicious not to recount in detail here. The first course was a trio of salads — baby kale caesar, mixed baby lettuces, and roasted beats with pistachios, mint, and goat cheese. Then came the main course — heriloom cauliflower steaks in a divinely creamy sauce, and steamed red snapper served with black beluga lentils, coconut curry, and soft herbs. And for dessert — potted butterscotch puddings (so good!) and little peanut butter souffle finger thingies that were almost too decadent (although, somehow, we all managed).

Conversation around the table was relaxed, yet lively. Zosia Mamet and Aya Cash talked books, tattoos, and plays — both of them agreeing that Heidi Schreck’s Tony-nominated “What the Constitution Means to Me,” was one of the best plays they had seen in years. “You have to go,” said Mamet. “Make it a priority.”

This being a Kate Spade dinner, the tablescape was, of course, immaculate, with vases of lush green botanicals and baby pineapples still on their stems placed at intervals along the pink and green-striped table, with Kate Spade dishes and flatware at every place setting.

And, of course, no evening would be complete without a fabulous goodie bag. Every guest went home with a cheeky pink and orange rattan Kate Spade bag, filled to the brim with treats, including sunglasses, a square silk scarf, and a cocktail shaker and matching cocktail kit.
