Stella McCartney Throws A Cuban-Inspired Garden Fête For Resort 2016

Stella McCartney‘s resort presentation is always the highlight of the season, thanks to the Nolita garden setting, the laidback vibe, and McCartney and her friends’ joie de vivre. Everyone, including the models, always seems to be having fun at this event. This year, there was a Cuban theme complete with chocolate cuban cigars, Coco Rico, Cerveza Hatuey, special rum cocktails, and various hors d’oeuvres, like vegetarian Cuban sandwiches. There were dancers and dancing men on stilts, and in the back of the garden, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro impersonators in green army fatigues and faux beards sat around. “I visited Cuba over 20 years ago, when Cuba was really Cuba,” McCartney told The Daily. But McCartney said the theme of the party didn’t necessarily relate to the clothing. “I don’t always link things effortlessly,” said McCartney. “The collection is a celebration of spring: new life, color, hope, energy and fun. It’s about flowers and color and I love designing spring. Cuba is just to have some fun. Fun on top of fun!”

The models donned floral print looks, dresses with exaggerated wraps at the waist, and beautiful flowing dresses in coral, tangerine, canary yellow, and cream. The latter were the highlight as the models twirled around in a cluster while showing off the looks. Meanwhile, guests like Cara Delevingne and St. Vincent mingled with Liv Tyler, Miranda Kerr, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Amber Valletta. Alicia Keys played with the maracas throughout the party and chatted up fellow musician Maxwell, and we spotted Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney. The list goes on of the who’s who that always show up for McCartney’s resort bash, but many of them have been close friends of McCartney for years, including Tyler, who has known the designer since she was 18 thanks to an introduction from Kate Moss and Amber Valletta (the latter she has known McCartney for over 20 years). “I feel like she’s one of those people that once you’ve met her, you’ve known her forever,” said Kerr. Perhaps that’s because McCartney is fun on top of fun; we have to thank her for reminding everyone that fashion is as well.
