Drawing Dior: Sasha Pivovarova Gets Arty for the French Fashion House

by Paige Reddinger

Call it a comeback! Model and artist Sasha Pivovarova returned to the catwalk to open Dior’s Spring/Summer 2018 show last year in a pair of jeans and a tee printed with feminist art historian Linda Nochlin‘s essay title “Why have there been no great women artists?” Now the top mod is the face of Dior’s Spring/Summer 2018 campaign, in which she is captured by Patrick Demarchelier creating her own art for the camera while decked out in Dior. What could be more luxurious than whipping out the paint brushes in your wardrobe’s finest?

Dior’s artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri pointed to another female artist as her main source of inspo for the season’s collection, Niki de Saint Phalle, who was one of the few female artists known for monumental sculptures.

Other brands that have celebrated Pivovarova’s artwork include Frame Denim and Free People. Check out more of her work at @sashapivovarovareal. And for more models turned artists be sure and keep an eye out for Saskia de Brauw, Daniela Lalita, Daria Werbowy, Tali Lennox, Hana Jirickova, to name a few.
