A dinner with Iris Apfel is not something to turn down. We joined the style icon with a handful of editors at The Polo Bar last night to toast her latest endeavor: a spring collection for HSN called Rara Avis (which means rare bird, and was the title of the 2006 Met Costume Institute exhibit dedicated to her). After everyone pulled on a jacket from her line—a variety of quilted, patterned, and micro-suede crocheted pieces—it was time to play dress up! Iris, who opted for a vintage velvet jacket, accessorized each guest in the range of oversized beaded and pom-pom necklaces, cuffs, envelope clutches, and bird-emblazoned everything. At each place setting was a pair of her signature eyeglasses (sans prescription lenses), which Iris strongly encouraged everyone to wear (read: everyone wore them). “You all look so yummy!” she said, delighted with her work.
Peruse a few pieces from the collection, below, which are available now here, and tune in to HSN when her fall collection launches in October 2017.
