Essence Introduces Its Inaugural Street Style Block Party & Awards

by Dena Silver

Alexander Wang may have moved his show back to Manhattan, but that doesn’t mean Brooklyn’s off the map for fashion week: Your Daily can exclusively report that Essence is introducing their first-ever Street Style Block Party & Awards on September 7th at The Dumbo Archway, under the Manhattan Bridge. In true block party fashion, the day will kick off at noon with plenty of live music, a touch of shopping, and art installations alongside a Street Style fashion show, co-hosted by Vanessa Simmons. On the grub front, there will be plenty of gourmet food trucks to nosh at.

That eve, an intimate crowd will dine with Essence editors and the recipients of their Street Style Awards: June Ambrose, Tracee Ellis Ross, Azede Jean-Pierre, and Tamu McPherson. “The Essence Street Style Block Party & Awards not only puts real women front and center with a unique celebration of self-expression, but adds a fresh, fierce element to New York Fashion Week for fans and influencers alike. Street Style applauds real women and fashion taste-makers who are setting the trends and bringing inspiration from the catwalk to the sidewalk,” said the mag’s editor-in-chief, Vanessa Bush. See you in DUMBO!
