Editor’s Pick: Chrome Hearts’ Bailey Girl Cat-Eye Sunglasses

by Charles Manning
What: Retro cat-eye sunglasses with a rock-and-roll edge inspired by designer Jesse Jo Stark’s friend, designer Bailey Hunter. The sunglasses come in five colorways and are part of a capsule collection that includes heart-shaped and rectangular frames, all with Zeiss custom fashion-tint lenses. Who: Established in 1988 by Richard and Laurie Lynn Stark, Chrome Hearts started out as a leather motorcycle riding-gear company, but evolved into a full-blown luxury lifestyle brand selling everything from handmade jewelry and apparel to luggage, furniture, home goods, and, of course, eyewear. Unlike most luxury brands, Chrome Hearts is not beholden to the traditional seasonal drop schedule, instead preferring to release pieces as they are designed. Almost every piece make is designed and manufactured in limited quantities at their factory in Hollywood, California before being distributed to their 28 freestanding stores and ultra-select retail partners like Bergdorf Goodman in New York and Selfridges in London. The brand has collaborated with everyone from Baccarat and the Mapplethorpe Foundation to Comme des Garçons, Garth Pugh, and Rick Owens. Why: First and foremost, they look freaking cool. And the brand’s attention to detail and craftsmanship simply cannot be beat. Seriously, this is about as close to couture as sunglasses get.
