In February, shortly after Cushnie et Ochs showed its fall 2018 collection and celebrated its 10th anniversary, co-designer Michelle Ochs departed the brand along with then-CEO Peter Arnold, leaving Carly Cushnie to helm both the business and creative sides of the company. Cushnie took the changes in stride, however, and next month she will make her return to the runway — her label now simply known as “Cushnie.”

“Nobody knows my business better than I do,” she told Business of Fashion“Before the [initial] investment and before Peter joined, I was technically in this role without the title so to speak. Even though it seems very new to the public that I’m both roles, it’s not entirely new for me.”

She also revealed that the partnership with Lee Jeans that was announced earlier this year will finally be unveiled, hitting the runway mixed in with her Spring 2019 designs. “That’s often how I wear the collection: mixed with denim,” she said of the 5-piece capsule collection that will drop in October. “A lot of the girls in the office wear the collection mixed with denim too.”

Of course, this will not be Cushnie’s first collection sans Ochs. She did, after all, keep the brand running without pause, delivering a Resort 2019 collection on her own. But this September will mark her first trip down the catwalk solo — and under her name alone.
