Dries Van Noten Spring Summer 2018

by Daniel Chivu

Dries Van Noten has a wonderful way with color and prints so using the decorative scarf as the cornerstone of his collection seemed like a natural way to exert his talents. The best examples tufts of scarves that accented the hip of a skirt, the shoulder of a dress, or as the underpinning to a jacket. Other highlights included the feminine and light gauze with delicately encrusted beading that topped off menswear attire like suiting and dress shirts, but also adorned more delicate looks like a soft nude slip dress. Plus, lips, yellow chrysanthemums, clouds, and stars were just a few other eye-popping prints that will set his clients heart aflutter. This season’s outerwear was magnificent in a sleek check topper that was cut to perfection and closed with a singled brooch or in a sequined yellow evening jacket with a silver and orange wave design and a trench in a particularly stunning shade of lavender. And hardly anyone will be able to resist the magnetizing effect of Van Noten’s colorful brocade boots come Spring. Ditto the sequined versions worn on Hanne Gaby Odiele. Divine.
