Fashion editor-at-large and stylist Sofia Achaval de Montaigu takes us inside Valentino’s big bash, “I Love Spike,” to celebrate new versions of its iconic studded bags for her second installment of her Paris Fashion Week Diary.
Today’s event was the Valentino cocktail party held in a little black velvet salon in the Hôtel Costes, which was very intimate and cozy. A lot of thought was put into the event, as next to the Hôtel was an installation of identical handbags with spikes in a variety of different colors. What made it striking was a large red leather heart with spikes that resembled the purses. But there was a twist: You could take a selfie with the so-called ILoveSpike heart, and the person whose picture had the most likes won a bag! The photographer took a picture of me with Valentino’s designer and creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, who was so friendly and charming. Afterwards, I said hi to my friend Carlos Souza, who stopped by the party. We chatted and laughed—I was about to take a photo with a Chanel bag, but he took it away so I could take a picture with a Valentino one instead. Everyone else smartly wore Valentino accessories to the celebration in honor of the brand. It was a perfect night in an intimate setting.
