In news that should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, the Dior couture show in Paris today was absolutely stunning. How could it not be with Maria Grazia Chiuri in charge? The woman is a wonder and her designs for the house are unwaveringly magnificent.
Just look at these dresses! Have you ever seen anything so lovely? At least one or two of these gowns are bound to reemerge on the red carpet at the Grammys or the Oscars in the coming weeks. Paging Jennifer Lawrence!
But as gorgeous as these dresses are, it was the masks worn by many of the models that really stole the show.
Some were made from delicate layers of silk tulle, while others appear to have been cut from patent leather and rich velvet — the perfect frames for the models’ beautifully feathered cat-eye makeup looks.
Does this mean masked balls are about to come back into style? If any designer could make that happen, it would be Chiuri.
Certainly we can expect to see these masks (or crafty, homemade facsimiles) on some of the more daring street-style stars at the upcoming ready-to-wear shows, which kick off in New York next month.
In the meantime, let’s all just marvel at the glamour and beauty that is these stunning masks at their Paris debut. J’adore!
