One never knows what they’ll get walking into a Calvin Klein presentation at the brand’s HQ and yesterday was no exception with the CK elves transforming the bare space into a faux hotel lobby with couches, mods relaxing on shag carpets, and even a working fireplace. It’s always a remarkable feat and complemented the men’s and women’s Fall 2016 looks, which included sportswear, jeans, underwear, performance, and accessories. So, why a hotel lobby for this installation? “I was in the Aman hotel in Japan about six months ago when it first opened,” Calvin Klein creative director Kevin Carrigan told us. “It felt so Calvin there. When you get into a hotel, you see all these cross generated people coming and going, people coming from the gym, people checking in, people in tuxedos going to an event, and I was like ‘Oh my god, there’s something in that that I find inspiring! To build a collection about the comings and going of a hotel lobby!” Checking in this Fall are jeans sculpted to the body in a full range of washes and the newly launched Calvin Klein Liquid Cotton and Calvin Klein Liquid Micro underwear lines. The rest of the something-for-everyone collection was classic Calvin. “Calvin’s been always gender fluid, cross-generational,” Carrigan explained. “It was kind of a celebration of all things Calvin for a new generation.”
The brand’s unstoppable team is heading to Palm Springs next week where they’ll host a desert brand experience starting Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17 as Coachella carries on. They’re taking over a property and welcoming guests to experience three days of music, fashion, and art over the weekend. So far, the lineup includes DJ sets by Alesso as well as Kanye’s bestie Virgil Abloh. Additional music performances are expected.
