Calling all aspiring fashion photographers: W magazine and Hugo Boss are searching for the next “It” photographer to shoot a feature for the mag’s September issue, with the potential to also shoot for Hugo Boss, as part of “The Shot.” Once you’ve peeled yourself off the floor, click here to submit three original images. Contestants are required to be at least 18 but can be located anywhere, and must never have shot for a major U.S. fashion magazine. The point is to be discovered, after all!
Submissions can be viewed at wmagazine.com/the-shot, and voting is up to the public…plus W’s EIC Stefano Tonchi, BOSS’ Jason Wu, photographers Inez & Vinoodh, International Center of Photography’s curator in resident Charlotte Cotton, and W senior photo editor Esmé René. Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, and technical skills, and a selection will be posted to W’s social media, including contest partner Tumblr.
“At W, we always have our eye out for who’s next,” said Tonchi. “The magazine has been a creative incubator for photographers who take risks and push boundaries. Discovering new talent is part of our DNA, and with The Shot, we want to support the next generation of image makers.”
W has some major discovery cred, having showcased the early works of the likes of Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti, and Craig McDean, not to mention Jamie Hawkesworth, who made his W debut in the April 2014 issue and since has worked with Loewe and Miu Miu. Last year W was on a different talent quest with #WmagModelSearch, the winner of which was signed by IMG Models and walked the NYFW runways.
Entries are accepted today through April 30. The winner will be announced in May, and their work will appear in W’s September issue.
