Roger Vivier’s Bruno Frisoni on Celebrating RV’s Iconic Strass Buckle

by Paige Reddinger

Roger Vivier recently threw a big bash in L.A. to celebrate the brand’s iconic Strass Buckle with VIPs like China Chow, Kate Bosworth, and Demi Moore. Hosts Djuna Bel and Jamie Schneider Mizrahi welcomed Roger Vivier’s creative director, Bruno Frisoni, and his guests to the rooftop of the Proper Hollywood to celebrate the brand’s heritage. Frisoni fills us in on why he decided to celebrate the Strass in Hollywood, his favorite Strass of all time, and his favorite thing to do in L.A. when he gets time off from work.

You have seen many iterations of the Strass buckle whether it’s the archives or your own designs. Do any favorites stick in your mind?
The first born is always considered a favorite no? So Sneaky Viv’ in my daywear design is close to my heart. It has become a signature at Vivier, and it really allows anyone to wear a strass buckle during the day making the buckle almost playful and not too serious!

How has the Strass buckle been reinvented yet again for the latest season?
Slidy Viv’ for a poolside look, Rabat slide for a more daywear and to complete the day or night I also love the Flowers Strass sling back….well the Flowers strass line is such a classic today at Vivier so all model from flats to high heel are great. And all of these can be worn day and night, with jeans or more dressed up.

You recently held an event in LA to celebrate the Strass. Why LA?
Hollywood Sparkles day and night, like our event! I wanted to have an event on a terrasse, with a view, music, sparkle and crystals and the city of angels was the best city to do that.

Who was the first celebrity to wear the Strass?
Jennifer Lopez
as my date at the Met gala in May 2007, stunning !

Catherine Deneuve
, since the movie Belle de Jour—she is an iconic Vivier star!

What was your favorite memory of the evening?
Every woman, every girl was so beautiful, so happy to be there…they were all shining like stars and they were stars!

Tell us about Evan Rachel Wood’s special performance.
Wild and rock n’ roll! I loved her voice, the way she moved on stage…full of stardom!

What are your favorite things to do in LA when you are not attending a work event?
I love going vintage furniture galleries scouting. I was also happy to visit. Everytime I go to L.A., I visit the Getty Museum.
