Another stylish turn for Rihanna: The star has been named creative director at Puma. She’ll also be the sporty Kering-owned label’s global ambassador, for their women’s training assortment of kicks and threads. “It’s great to find a brand that celebrates strength and individuality. I couldn’t think of a more perfect partner to collaborate with as a creative director,” she said in a statement. “I’m excited for you to see what Puma and I come up with.” The pair-up is purportedly going to be pretty hands-on, and Rihanna just made a trip to Puma’s HQ in Herzogenaurach, Germany yesterday for her first creative brainstorm session. She previously tried her hand at design with a few collections for British high fashion retailer River Island, and in June, she nabbed the Fashion Icon award at the CFDA Awards.
The folks at Puma sound pretty jazzed about the whole arrangement as well. “Signing Rihanna is a fantastic step for PUMA. Her global profile, her charisma and individuality, her ambition–all these things make her a perfect ambassador for our brand,” said the brand’s CEO, Bjørn Gulden, in a statement. Rihanna’s fellow Puma ambassadors are football striker Mario Balotelli and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. The trio will star in the brand’s Spring 2015 campaign.
