Ballerina-obsessed tots? In need of a pair of chic ballet flats? Repetto is opening its first brick-and-mortar in the U.S. just in time for the holidays. The 2,350-square-foot store at 400 West Broadway in NYC will carry everyday staples along with authentic dance wear like pointe shoes, leotards, and tulle skirts.
A “Detroit,” or a collection, will comprise high heels with pointy studs and ostrich feathers and an offering of leather goods inspired by dance such as bags, clutches, and wallets. For less seasoned ballerinas, or for those who aren’t ballerinas at all, Repetto offers ready-to-wear, too. Customized shoes for men and women will be available at the brand’s “L’Atelier Repetto” in the back of the store.
Fun fact: The first pair of Repetto ballet shoes were made by Rose Repetto in 1947 at her workshop near the National Opera in Paris. Since then, everyone from famed dancers like Mikhail Baryshnikov and Rudolf Nureyev to Brigitte Bardot and Serge Gainsbourg have worn the creations. Bardot made Repetto’s iconic ballet flat famous when she wore them in Et Dieu Créa La Femme (And God Created the Woman) in 1956.
