(NEW YORK) Dior’s beauty team is in new hands: Peter Philips has been tapped as the brand’s creative and image director. In this new capacity, Philips will create and formulate makeup for the maison in addition to helming Dior’s beauty looks for its catwalks and campaigns. His predecessor, Pat McGrath, has been whipping up runway-ready faces the brand’s RTW and couture catwalks for over a decade (though she didn’t handle much product development for the label, as Philips will be doing).
Philips’ most recent gig in the beauty realm was as the creative director of makeup at Chanel, a position he held for five years, up until his departure last February. He was billed with creating cult-status nail polish hues and extremely inventive runway looks that ranged from mesh lashes to bejeweled eyebrows. Chanel was the first major house that enlisted Philips’ beauty prowess: his experience includes editorial work for myriad international editions of Vogue, as well as freelance gigs with the likes of Dries Van Noten and Fendi.
