As of November 3rd, Oscar de la Renta will have his first-ever creative director. After weeks of speculation, the house has finally confirmed Peter Copping‘s appointment. His role will extend over all product categories, including ready-to-wear, bridal, accessories, and home goods. He will make his New York Fashion Week debut for the label this coming February. In this role, he will report to both de la Renta and the brand’s CEO, Alex Bolen.
“Our industry has not always done the best job when it comes to changes in design leadership. My hope is that, in leading this selection, and actively participating in the transition, I can ensure the right design future for our company and brand,” de la Renta said on the hire. Copping decamped from Nina Ricci earlier this month, following five years as artistic director at the label. And just last week, Carven’s Guillaume Henry was confirmed to succeed him at the French maison. Before arriving at Ricci, Copping spent 12 years as the studio director at Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacob‘s helm, in addition to prior gigs at Sonia Rykiel and Christian Lacroix.
