Patricia Clarkson, Bradley Cooper Celebrate “Learning to Drive” in NYC

by Sydney Sadick

Last eve, Patricia Clarkson celebrated her latest film Learning to Drive with the très dreamy Bradley Cooper, along with Martin Scorsese, The Cinema Society, FIJI Water, and Truvée Wines. Cooper (who co-stars with Clarkson in Broadway’s Elephant Man) and Scorsese co-hosted the gala at The Orchard Hotel’s new rooftop bar and restaurant, Mr. Purple. Adrien Brody, Andreja Pejic, Amy Ryan, Nanette Lepore, Gina Gershon, Pablo Schreiber, Garrett Neff, Johannes HueblTimo Weiland, and others joined the festivities.

In the film, Clarkson plays a New York literary critic who’s determined to get her driver’s license (and learn how to drive) after her divorce. We wondered: Is Clarkson truly a good driver? “Oh gosh. My skills were actually once good…then not so good…and then finally they got better while I did the film,” she said. Mamie Gummer—who arrived with sis Grace Gummer who stars in the film—was a little more confident. “I’m an excellent driver. I love driving! My car isn’t great, though. It’s a red Prius that was bought out of necessity…but it works,” she told us.

And if you ever pondered what it’s like to star alongside Cooper, Clarkson weighs in… “You know when you’re dreaming? Like when you have a really great dream? That’s what working with Bradley [Cooper] is like.”
