David Yurman Fills Us In On His New Soho Boutique

by Paige Reddinger

David Yurman kicked off fashion week last night with the unveiling of its luxe new Soho boutique at 114 Prince Street. The Yurmans designed the 2,000-square-foot space themselves with the help of their internal design team. This is the second David Yurman boutique in NYC. The brand also has a store referred to as “The Townhouse”, located at 712 Madison Avenue, but the new Soho boutique is special to the Yurman family. David and Sybil Yurman began their careers as artists in Soho in the ’70s, so the neighborhood is especially significant. “I even used to make sandals around the corner in this neighborhood with a sandal maker,” said David Yurman. “This is really our neighborhood.”

As a result, the store has special personal touches from the Yurmans’ history, including some of David Yurman’s original bronze sculptures that he created years ago (some date back nearly two decades!), pieces from their days in the arts and crafts movement, and reproductions of Sybil Yurman’s paintings that she created roughly 25 years ago. It’s as close to a David Yurman museum as you can get for now. The store even has displays of Japanese sword guards (those are collector’s items belonging to their son Evan Yurman)which inspired their men’s Waves Collection. And of course, there are plenty of beautiful baubles including special high-end jewelry pieces designed by Evan Yurman.

On hand to celebrate: an eclectic group of celebrities like Christina Hendricks, Cuba Gooding Jr., Pete Wentz, Selita Ebanks, and Katrina Bowden. “I’m a huge fan of David Yurman and I wear their jewelry quite often,” said Bowden. “It’s a beautiful store and I’m here to support them.” Meanwhile, the Yurmans were also busy greeting a slew of editors and publishers like ELLE’s Robbie Myers and Kevin O’MalleyHarper’s Bazaar‘s Carol Smith, WSJ.‘s Kristina O’Neill, InStyle‘s Ariel Foxman, and more. In other words, it was a must-attend event at a must-see store.
