The Aussies in Fashion Held Their Annual Reunion

by Eddie Roche

Last night the Aussies in fashion gathered for their annual “riotous reunion” at Jimmy at the James Hotel for the 8th annual Australian Fashion Foundation summer party. The foundation was created by Malcolm Carfrae and Julie Anne Quay with the mission to help the next generation of Australian’s get into fashion outside of Oz. “It’s a way for those of us who have been successful to give back,” Carfrae, who recently launched his own consulting company, told The Daily. “But it’s also a great platform for the established Australian designers like Dion Lee, Camilla and Marc, and Zimmermann to co-host or dress Australian models, influencers, and actresses.” Over the years the organization has placed its finalists in internships at Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, Proenza Schouler, Thom Browne, Narcisco Rodriguez, and VFILES with the last two finalists at Giles Deacon in London and Louis Vuitton in Paris.

Spotted at last night’s soirée were Jordan Barrett, Lincoln Pilcher, Susan Joy, Georgia Fowler, James Houston, Brian McGrory, John Wattiker, Jordan Murray, Bridget Malcolm, Kane Manera, Adin Taylor, Zanita Whittington, and Sarah Wynter. The event’s honorary committee included Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman of Camilla & Marc; Dion Lee; Kym Ellery of ELLERY; and Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo of TOME. One Aussie noticeably absent was Harper Bazaar’s Laura Brown. Where was she? “On a plane to Sweden! She’s currently having her citizenship revoked and may not be allowed back into Australia,” Carfrae cracked.

The Oz-fest was made possible with love from the Australian Consulate General and the Woolmark Company as well as the Hentley Farm Wine and Wine Australia. Mother Nature also played her part and cleared up right before things kicked off. “We’ve never been rained on in eight years,” Carfrae said. “The sun came out at exactly 6 p.m. when the event started. Isn’t God Australian?”
