Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his Oscar, but who took home the gold on the red carpet? Charlize Theron lit up the tapis rouge in a fiery red Dior Haute Couture gown, but it was the $3.7 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds that were the crowning touch. Never has there been anything more divine than that Secret Cluster Diamond sautoir (48.8 carats, set in platinum), which hung like a medal against Theron’s toned torso, dead center between that plunging V. Alicia Vikander looked radiant in a strapless canary yellow Louis Vuitton dress, despite creating quite a stir on social media for comparisons to Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Lady Gaga arrived decked out in a stunning custom strapless pantsuit avec train by her BFF, stylist and designer on the rise, Brandon Maxwell.
Other ladies who won in white include Priyanka Chopra, who wore a cinched waist floral Zuhair Murad gown that flattered her every curve, and Olivia Wilde, who looked angelic in a Valentino Haute Couture number. Wilde looked best from the back thanks to a pleating detail that fell over her shoulders like a pair of wings, and her Neil Lane choker and Roger Vivier bag were the perfect final touches. Rooney Mara looked ethereal in Givenchy Haute Couture. Getting her to crack a smile? That’s another story.
Meanwhile, Margot Robbie looked fittingly statuesque in a gold python Tom Ford gown. Who better to dress this sexy femme fatale than Tom Ford? His bestie Julianne Moore went for Chanel Haute Couture this year. The black beading on the cut-out neckline dazzled against Moore’s porcelain skin. Another beauty in Chanel Haute Couture was Daisy Ridley, whose beaded silver gown happened to show off her sparkly Louboutins.
Armani had big wins last night with Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett, two who rarely go wrong at these events. Charlotte Rampling looked incredibly chic in an Armani Privé blue and white long-sleeved gown with pocket details in silk jacquard, which was embroidered with Swarovski crystals. Armani also happened to dress Leonardo, so they perhaps had the biggest win of all.
