The Academy of Art University will hold its graduate show on September 8, during New York Fashion Week. Ahead of the event, The Daily is highlighting some of the unique talents presenting their MFA collections at the show.
1. YING JIN
What to expect: An equestrian-inspired collection that also highlights Jin’s passion for geometry.
Mystery muse: The designer was inspired by children riding horses in Golden Gate Park. One particularly confident little girl became the muse for her collection.
Unexpected education: Jin holds a B.A. in management of information systems, which she earned at the Yanbian University of Science and Technology.

2. HANBIT KU
What to expect: A womenswear collection that places functionality at the forefront, and uses zippers as a design detail that the wearer can play with.
Key influences: Ku was raised in an artistic family, and studied music and fine arts before entering fashion. She also studied anatomy to get a better idea of how our bodies move, which plays a part in how she designed her collection.
Great advice: Ku’s mentor told her to dress in a way that demands others to treat her with respect and dignity. Now, she’s making clothes that do that for others!
