Lady Gaga has embodied the 2019 Met Gala theme on both a sartorial and a spiritual level. The singer/actress/Oscar winner was among the first to arrive on the red carpet tonight, likely so that she could fulfill her hosting duties. Gaga arrived in an enormous hot-pink gown designed by Brandon Maxwell, with the designer himself by her side. Surrounded by a crew of backup dancers wielding umbrellas, she twirled up and down the stairs showing off her look’s massive train. And it was only her coat.
Gaga took it off to reveal a second look — a chic black strapless ballgown with a bustle. She grabbed one of her dancer’s umbrellas and continued to dance up and down the stairs.
But wait, there’s more! Gaga removed the black ballgown to reveal a hot pink dress. Suddenly she’s on a cell phone from 1991. Her longtime friend and hair stylist Frederic Aspiras shows up to make sure her hair is still looking glam amid all these costume changes. There’s a lot going on. She’s a babe.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE. Gaga stripped down to her undies, grabbed a pink “Haus of Gaga” wagon filled with champagne and Brandon Maxwell hats and just kind of paraded around. Then she and Brandon had a cute moment:
Considering camp is about performance, rather than just clothes, its safe to say that Gaga fully embodied the theme, heart and soul. Not only was she in her element, she was clearly having fun. Here’s a bonus shot of her with her dancers and Aspiras:
