Céline Dion’s 2019 Met Gala Look Weighs Over 22 Pounds

by Aria Darcella

You can count on Céline Dion to do the absolute most, and for the 2019 Met Gala she didn’t disappoint. The singer arrived in a lavishly beaded and fringed bodysuit with a matching headpiece by Oscar de la Renta. Naturally, the diva’s look paid tribute to the glamorous performers of yore. Designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia were inspired by the Ziegfeld Follies and Judy Garland.

According to Instagram the look took 52 embroiderers over 3,000 hours to hand-bead the 18 panels that make up the garment. The result weighs over 22 pounds.

In an adorable twist, Dion apparently didn’t understand the gala’s theme until the Oscar team explained it to her. “I was ready to camp and sleep all night,” she told E! “They said, ‘Girl, you don’t know what camp is. Oscar de la Renta’s going to show you.’” Now I kind of want to know what Dion’s take on camping chic would be. There’s always next year.
