Despite the fact that plans for a third film fell through, Sex and the City might still come back. Variety reports that Paramount Television has acquired the rights to Is There Still Sex in the City? Candace Bushnell’s new follow-up to SATC.
The new tome, set on the Upper East Side, explores life and dating for women over 50. Bushnell is set to write the pilot script, and will also be an executive producer on the project. But it is yet unclear if it will be a continuation of the original TV show. If they do decide to bring back the old gang, count Kim Cattrall — who played Samantha Jones — out. She recently refused to return to the movie series, so it’s unlikely she’ll want to join the new show.
“The original Sex and the City book and series served as a groundbreaking touchstone for an entire generation of women, myself included,” said Nicole Clemens, president of Paramount TV. “We’re thrilled to be able to continue that conversation from the underrepresented point of view of women in their 50s.”
Is The Still Sex in the City? is available for pre-order now. It will be released August 6.
