The Dark Side of Popsugar’s Viral Celebrity Face-Matching Tool (Tech CrunchThe Fashion Law)
Bad news for anyone who used Popsugar’s popular #Twinning tool — which uses a selfie to show which celebrity you most resemble — the site accidentally leaked everyone’s uploaded images. If that massive breech of privacy doesn’t concern you, the terms of service should, as they give the Popsugar extensive rights to your image. “The site’s owners/operators may ‘modify’ the photos you submitted,” explains The Fashion Law. “They may share them ‘in any media formats and through any media channels.’ They can also use them to create new content unrelated to #twinning. They are – based on the language in the terms – likely even entitled to sell your images.”
