Maya Rudolph Flawlessly Impersonates Anna Wintour

by Sydney Sadick

Need an afternoon laugh? In a skit titled “My New York,” which premiered Tuesday night on Maya Rudolph’s variety show Maya & Marty, the actress delivered quite the impersonation of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The two-minute clip is full of funny moments, and Rudolph was dressed the part, too, wearing Wintour’s signature Chanel suit, bobbed hair, and black oversized shades.

The skit starts out with “Anna” riding in a black car with who appears to be her assistant, stating, “New York is fashion, refinement, and luxury…if the city were a garment, it’d be a silk men’s blouse.” She takes her car to Han’s Deli (there’s “no place more New York” she says) and selects green Jell-O, tuna, and imitation crab, “the best crab in the city,” and stuffs her bag with serious handfuls of hot sauce packets. Competition to the Condé cafeteria?

The skit ends with the faux-Anna hosting an edit meeting with her staff in the bodega and meeting Karl Lagerfeld for a lunch date, played by Martin Short (who with the wig and shades, really could pass for Karl). Click here to see the full video. It’s worth it.
