Guggenheim Pre-Party

by Sydney Sadick

Last night, a chic set turned out for the second glamorous museum outing of the week: the Guggenheim International Gala Pre-Party, sponsored by Dior and hosted by the museum’s Young Collectors Council. This was just part one of the two-day celebration at the museum, marking the third art fête of the week.

Celebrities like Marion Cotillard and mods Alexa Chung and Lindsay Ellingson came out for the swanky shindig, which has become one of the most highly anticipated events on the social calendar, uniting those in fashion, art, and music. This year, the event commemorated the works of artists Agnes Martin (in memoriam), Tauba Auerbach, Tacita Dean, Leslie Hewitt, Sarah Morris, Taryn Simon, and Laurie Simmons, with a special musical performance by BANKS, the artist who has been making big waves in the music biz. The singer, who wore Dior, gave a shout out to the house’s recently appointed creative director on Twitter: “Thank you Maria Grazia [Chiuri] for making me feel so special, like the strongest version of myself.” Chiuri was spotted dancing to the singer’s performance on the second floor of the space.

Other chic guests included FutureLaura HarrierHannah BronfmanAndrew WarrenCipriana and TK Wonder QuannMia MorettiEva ChenAimee SongJulia Restoin RoitfeldHarley Viera NewtonDao-Yi Chow, Brad Goreski, Chelsea Leyland. Maria Hatzistefanis, and Rachel Roy. “I like art that, when I look at it, it either makes me smile or it inspires me,” the designer told us. “My brother is the film curator of the MoMA, so I get lovely tours from him and I get to understand the reasoning behind why artists, especially modern artists, do what they do. I would say any story that somehow brings out joy, even if it’s through pain, is what I look to.”

The evening ended with guests dancing late into the night to tunes spun by DJ Nancy Whang. The Guggenheim International Gala will be held tonight.
