Tinder Gets Inclusive

by Eddie Roche

With New Yorkers’ spirits iffy at best these days, some positive vibes returned last night at Skylight Clarkson where Tinder celebrated its new transgender-inclusive feature. The dating app has updated its options to allow users to choose transgender-nonconforming identities. Tinder worked with GLAAD to provide over 35 gender suggestions for users to choose from, along with the option to type in any term they best identify with. Coming out to swipe toast the change were Tinder CEO Sean Rad, Troye Sivan, Zackary Drucker, Carmen Career, Yasmine Pretty, TK Wonder, Paper’s Drew Elliott, Douglas Friedman, Ian Mellencamp, Lauren Foster, Corey Reese, Andrea James, Robert McGarry, Bradley Miller, Jason Burlingame, Evan Tye, Joey Giuntoli, and Factory PR’s Mark Silver. The event featured a life-size video installation featuring PSA-style video with Transparent producer Zackary Drucker, actor Trace Lysette, writer Lady J, and Strut’s Laith Ashley, who shared their dating experiences.

Transgender Awareness Week started Monday and continues through November 20.
