Maria Cornejo Celebrates Her Capsule Collection and Book Launch at Barneys

by Sydney Sadick

Last night, a chic fashion crowd gathered at Barneys to toast Mario Cornejo on her new capsule collection for the department store, as well as her new Rizzoli book Maria Cornejo: Zero. The designer hosted a cocktail party and book signing for the launches on the fourth floor of the store’s Upper East Side flagship, followed by a private dinner upstairs at Freds, bringing out guests like Laura BrownMario Sorrenti, Mary Frey, Simon Doonan, and Cleo Wade.

A little intel on the tome: it’s an intimate portrait of Cornejo’s processes and inspirations, featuring a mix of Polaroids, sketches, runway shots, and photographs created especially for the book by her husband Mark Borthwick, who was also celebrating his birthday last night, including images of Tilda SwintonCindy Sherman, and other fashion muses. The capsule collection, which was done in commemoration of the book, includes 12 pieces inspired by one of her best-selling prints of a Housing Works bookshelf from the brand’s archive.
