Jason Wu has been quietly expanding the size range on his own line (as well as for e-tailers like 11 Honoré) for quite some time now, but today he is making a more pronounced move into the plus-size fashion market — his collaboration with Eloquii has finally dropped.
The limited-edition eveningwear collection features 11 pieces for sizes 14 to 28, including dresses, separates, and outerwear. Aesthetically, Wu wanted to reference the opulence of the ’50s, but as seen on the collection’s campaign star, Paloma Elsesser, everything looks pretty modern. “I have been a fan of Paloma for quite some time, as I am drawn to her unapologetic approach to her career and style,” said Wu, who appears in images and a video with her. “She exudes such a strong sense of confidence.”
The collection looks so effortless and chic, it’s a wonder more designers aren’t producing in a larger size range. Wu was quick to shut down the idea that reaching plus-size fashion fans is a challenge. “I don’t believe there are specifically barriers that designers face when designing for sizes 14+,” he said. “Rather, there [is a need for] continued education that is necessary when designing for this market.” Hopefully with more high-profile collaborations like this the market will attract more attention and increase demand for designers and manufacturers to step up their efforts.
The collection, which between $89.95 and $259.95, is available in Eloquii stores and online now. See all the items, below.
