Janelle Monae, Salma Hayek, and Lee Radziwill all sat front row at Giambattista Valli in Paris. The three could not differ more aesthetically or in life stages of dressing—Monae is 29, Hayek is 49, and Radziwill is 82. The Valli girl is of all ages. And there were looks for each of them on this runway, and if worn properly there were looks that would work as well on Radziwill as they would on Monae and Hayek. Take, for instance, a floral jacquard pantsuit or an elegant white dress coat.
The collection had that ’60s and ’70s vibe that Valli has been going for in recent seasons. Some of the best looks were cutout dresses with floral jacquard halter necks that were embellished with beading at the neck, and a sequin tweed top cutout in a wave pattern down the middle paired with an embellished floral mini skirt. Then there were the flowing gowns that closed the show for Valli’s gala girls. Gigi Hadid donned a mustard yellow empire waisted look that accentuated her curves. The great thing about Hadid is that she has a figure like the original supermodels: Cindy, Naomi, Linda. She looked sexy and elegant. For the younger clientele, Valli’s update on the gladiator sandal will be a must-have next season.
