When I first met Eugenia Kuzmina at Nello’s Restaurant in NYC, all those years ago, I was struck by her blue eyes which reminded me of a Siberian Husky. As for the rest, at 5’11 with a great figure, it is hard to miss her presence anywhere. Eugenia started modeling at age of 13, in Russia and first arrived in New York City at 16 with Ford Models.
What was your first impression of New York: I loved the $99 cent shops, and I was shocked that people just went shopping for no reason.
Your father was a famous nuclear scientist, what did he think of you traveling to Europe and then USA by yourself: He was enormously proud that as a teen I was paying rent in Paris, plus French taxes. I was very timid and nerdy as a kid with my interests being quantum physics and sports.
Since then, Eugenia has worked for Dior, Hermes and L’Oreal. And has also been featured in several movies and TV shows including Fading Gigolo, The Gentlemen by Guy Ritchie, Bad Moms, and Spy City.
Being married to a famous Hollywood Producer, Bill Block whose movie this year “The Holdovers” was nominated for five Oscars finally got Eugenia to the Oscars. She reached out to stylist extraordinaire, Veta Horwitz who likes to go the extra mile with whimsical styles. Veta cleverly picked a designer from Vietnam, Le Thanh Hoa who dressed Eugenia in a Lilac off the shoulder confection. Eugenia felt like an old school glamorous movie star with Sabrina Nicholson completing her classic look with hair and makeup.
What was it like to attend your first Oscars? Honestly, I cannot believe all the publications that mentioned me as one of the best dressed women at the awards, Vogue, Radar, US Weekly.
I cannot wait to work with Veta at the upcoming Cannes Festival.
So proud of my husband for the “Holdovers” movie. It takes a lot of effort to put a powerful story together.
Favorite part of the Oscars? My favorite part was Ryan Gosling’s performance of “I am just Ken”. I have known Ryan for many years. He is extremely talented. I am always happy to see him being recognized as the talent and nice guy that he is.
What are you working on right now?
Right now, I am working on AGT showcase with Howie Mandel. I love comedy and being silly. That is the real me.
