This Sunday, August 5, the fourth annual Southampton Sweat will take place at the Southampton Arts Center in, you guessed it, Southampton. Sailor Brinkley-Cook is hosting this year and has even managed to recruit her supermodel mom, Christie Brinkley, to be her co-host.
“I got involved because my daughter Sailor asked me to,” said Brinkley. “She [attended] last year with her boyfriend Balaram [Stack] and they had a really great time.”
The outdoor event is sponsored by Juice Press, Bandier, Republic Records, and Total Gym and will feature classes from cult-favorite studios including Dogpound, The Class by Taryn Toomey, Anna Kaiser, Mile High Run Club, Tone House, BRICK New York, and SoHo Strength Lab. Celebrity trainer Evan Betts will teach on behalf of Tone House while Akin’s Army founder Akin Akman will teach a modified version of his namesake class. In addition to fitness classes, attendees will also enjoy complimentary food, beverage and wellness experiences by Hospital for Special Surgery, Saje Natural Wellness, WellCo, and more throughout the day as included in their ticket purchase (tickets are $60, by the way, and can be purchased here).
“It’s designed to get the community to all come together in a fun way,” said Brinkley. “And also to just deliver the message of how important it is to have some form of exercise.”
Brinkley knows a thing or twenty about fitness. At 64, she’s in better shape than most 30-somethings. “I believe in variety when it comes to exercise, but I also believe in consistency. I love taking different classes, spin classes, working out with weights, long runs on the beach, biking outdoors — I’ve got both a beach bike and a regular bike. I like to mix it up.”
Where does she get all this energy?
“I don’t know. I’ve just never been the kind of person who could just sit there. Like, even if I’m just going to the beach, I like to be doing something there. And I think that energy gives you energy. Just moving gives you energy… I’ll definitely be showing up [on Sunday] with my workout clothes on, ready to go.”
