The CFDA and Vogue are Bringing America’s Best to Paris
For the 17th season, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund is supporting rising American talent on a global stage in Paris. Eight of the Fund’s 2018 finalists — including Batsheva Hay, Emily Adams Bode, Christian Cowen Danielle Corona of Hunting Season, Jonathan Cohen, Matthew Adams Dolan, Rebecca de Ravenel, and Scosha Woolridge — will display their collections at a showroom from September 28th to 30th. “Part of the CFDA’s mission is to make American fashion more global,” says Steven Kolb, president and CEO of the CFDA. “With Americans in Paris, we are able to provide emerging designers with the opportunity to showcase their collections to the international editors and buyers in Paris during that week.”

Jill Sander’s Quiet Triumph
Yet again, Lucie and Luke Meier have presented an outstanding collection for Jil Sander. The duo have previously established their skills for crafting modern pieces that both embody Sander’s aesthetic while remaining wholly their own. And yet they still manage to surprise. This season the designers toyed with duality — soft versus hard, masculine versus feminine. Exceptional tailoring was offset by flowing fabrics. Meanwhile the brand’s trademark minimalism was punctuated by elaborate and intricate embroidery. This new Jil Sander has all the class and elegance of Old Céline, but arguably with a bit more edge. One has to wonder if the brand held its runway show in New York or Paris that it would get the recognition it deserves.
