Get your wallets ready, ladies…Bergdorf Goodman is expanding its women’s department by 25,000 square feet, which will be divided between the eighth and ninth floors of the building. That space was home to the luxury retailer’s executive offices and other back-of-house endeavors, which will eventually move above the Paris Theater in an adjacent building, 4 West 58th Street.
BG began expanding in September with the opening of the Modernist Collections on the renovated sixth floor, and by next month a new jewelry salon will be unveiled with its own dedicated windows on 57th Street. By next fall, the main floor will be renovated into a series of salons for luxury handbags (naturally).
“Bergdorf Goodman is the crown jewel of Neiman Marcus Group, and we are committed to continuously elevating its stature as the pinnacle of luxury retail,” said Karen Katz, president and CEO at Neiman Marcus Group. “Together with our investment to open Neiman Marcus at Hudson Yards in West Chelsea, our Bergdorf Goodman expansion represents our long-term commitment to serve New York City residents and visitors with two distinct and powerful luxury experiences.”
The new eighth and ninth floor will open in 2018 and renovations are expected to continue through 2020. The expansion of Bergdorf Goodman is said to be the largest the retailer has undergone in almost 50 years.

The previous BG fine jewelry salon was far superior in atmosphere and restrained beauty than the newest rendition which is forced, with hideous Sputnik chandeliers seemingly plucked from a catalog of ugly modernist lighting disasters.
