Phillip Picardi took to Twitter today to announce his departure from Out Magazine. He joined the publication as editor-in-chief only one year ago. “This journey has been shorter and more complex than I hoped,” he wrote. “But it has been an honor to helm this title, and a deeper honor to lead such an incredibly talented team of LGBTQ+ people.”

Rumors first swirled that Picardi might leave the title back in May. At the time, sources said he was threatening to leave unless the magazine’s parent company, Pride Media, paid freelancers as promised. The company’s issue with paying freelancers stretches back before Picardi joined the publication.

As for what the editor will do next, it appears he has a gig lined up with GQ. Last month he tweeted that he is the magazine’s new grooming columnist.
