Nick Graham Presents ‘Life on Mars’ with Bill Nye and Buzz Aldrin

by Sydney Sadick

What unites science, outer space, and fashion? Nick Graham, of course. The designer debuted his new Life on Mars: Fall/Winter 2035 collection in the most unique of ways at his New York Fashion Week: Men’s presentation, yesterday. The designer enlisted pal Bill Nye (a.k.a. the “Science Guy”) and astronaut Buzz Aldrin for very particular roles: Nye will narrate the visual journey to Mars (the presentation) and Aldrin will close the show, whose projection to land people on Mars by 2035 served as inspiration for the designer’s newest range. “I’ve walked on the moon, so how hard can it be to walk in a fashion show?” Aldrin said in a statement. “Nick’s collection is very Mars-friendly and every astronaut should look their best when they land there.”

Graham’s collection features sharkskin suits, metallic rainwear, and space-oriented formal attire. Wool and wool-blend separates as well as outerwear were shown at the presentation, in addition to space-themed dress shirts, neckwear, scarves, and accessories. It should be noted that the presentation wasn’t Nye’s nor Graham’s first fashion foray. The duo launched a collaborative line of bowties last year. “I’m a huge fan of both Bill Nye and Buzz Aldrin,” said Graham. “Both of them have had an enormous impact on our understanding of science and space. To work with them on the Mars show is so exciting. And besides, Mars is the new black. ”
