Couture week is only a few weeks away, but some last minute additions are still being added. WWD reports that Maison Rabih Kayrouz has joined the schedule as a fully-fledged member. The label was initially invited to show couture as a guest in 2016.
For context, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture (couture’s governing body) has tight rules for gaining couture status. Some of the criteria includes showing two couture collections a year, producing pieces made by hand, and employing a certain number of people in one’s ateliers. However to keep things fresh, the Chambre invites guests to show each season. Some big-name players have been longtime guests, including Iris Van Herpen and Zuhair Murad. This year Balmain is invited.
With any luck this will get some more eyes on the Rabih Kayrouz, which honestly looks like a lot of fun. Last season the label had a diverse runway with women of all ages. The collection featured some fun juxtapositions as well — utilitarian fabrics like heavy wool were used for gowns, while classic tailoring was tweaked with unexpected design details.
Spring 2019 couture week takes place January 21st, and runs through the 24th.
