After her Oscar nominated performance in A Star Is Born, Lady Gaga’s next film role has finally been announced. Deadline reports Gaga is attached to the Ridley Scott helmed project about the Gucci family fashion dynasty and the murder of the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci. Gaga is slated to play Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci. Fashion historians will recall she was tried and convicted of orchestrating her ex-husband’s assassination on the steps of his office in 1995.
Reggiani — dubbed “The Black Widow” by the Italian press — ended up serving 18 years behind bars before getting out of prison in 2016. She claimed in her 1988 trial she was wrongfully convicted and her psychic set her up. The film will be based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, which came out in 2000. The book follows the ascent, collapse, and resurrection of the Gucci dynasty.
There is no word yet on when production will begin. Currently, Gaga is busy with her residency in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Scott is set to direct The Last Duel with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. At any rate, it will be exciting to see Gaga in a murderous role again — remember how terrifying she was in American Horror Story? We’ll be waiting!
