The New York Post’s Christina Amoroso Joins Cosmopolitan.com

by Kristen Heinzinger

After almost eight years chronicling NYC life at the New York Post, Christina Amoroso is joining Cosmopolitan.com as its new executive lifestyle editor. Similar to her duties as deputy editor at The Post, she’ll be the in-house beauty, food, and fitness whiz. She writes in about the new gig…

How was the interview at Cosmo, and more importantly, what did you wear?
I met with editor Amy Odell, style director Charles Manning, and beauty director Carly Cardellino. I wore black Vince Camuto pants, a dark floral silk blazer by BCBG, and suede La Canadienne boots, which I practically live in during the winter.

Why was this a good move for you, after so many years at The Post?
I had the most incredible experience at the New York Post—I started there right out of college and worked there as an intern before that. It’s where I learned everything I know about writing and editing, met some of my closest friends, and laughed every single day. It’s bittersweet to leave, but I’m looking forward to getting my feet wet in a different newsroom, brainstorming story ideas for a new audience, and learning even more about digital.

What will your new role entail?
In my role, which reports to Amy, I’m managing several editors and responsible for the site’s considerable style and beauty, health and fitness, and food and cocktail coverage—a mix of breaking news, long-form features, personal essays, and original photo stories and videos. I’ll also oversee strategy for Cosmo’s lifestyle Facebook pages, including Cosmo Beauty & Style, Cosmo Body, and Cosmo Bites. And I’ll work with the partnerships and search teams on content creation and coordinate with the branded content and sales teams.

What’s your sense of humor like?
My friends and co-workers would say I’m dry and sarcastic—and making puns comes naturally to me (it’s an occupational hazard of working at the New York Post).

What are you looking forward to most about the new gig?
To continue to create compelling content that’s shareable and relevant to millennial women, who are now, more than ever, such an important audience whose voices need to be heard. I’ve been a passionate Cosmo reader for as far back as I can remember. I’m excited about working with the whip-smart Cosmo team to reach even more readers. And I’m thrilled to be working for—and learning from—Amy Odell, who’s been such an innovator in digital media.
