If there’s anything better than seeing Hamilton, it’s seeing Hamilton for free, which is exactly what happened on Saturday night, when American Express staged a takeover of the Richard Rogers theater to the delight of New York’s fashion cognoscenti. Diane Kruger, Cara Delevingne, Helena Christensen, Nico Tortorella, Tali Lennox, Coco Rocha, Georgia Fowler, Zosia Mamet—all were on hand to absorb the most exciting thing to happen to American theater since, well, we’re not theater experts, all while celebrating the new Platinum Card. Here’s how it went down: the crowd first gathered at Blue Fin, where members of the Platinum Collective (Joanna Hillman, Jennifer Fisher) assembled for pre-show cocktails, sushi, and sliders. And then, to the theater, where rumors of free concessions had guests clamoring for a dose of Veuve in a Hamilton-emblazoned cup. And then, it was time for Javier Muñoz (the “sexy” Hamilton, according to Ben Brantley, and the subject of a fabulous GQ profile). Was it worth the hype? According to the #AmexPlatinum tag on IG, a resounding yes. Afterwards, the crowd filed out of the theater and braved Times Square’s notorious crowds for an after-party at The Diamond Horseshoe, where they were joined by cast members to take in a performance from Icona Pop. All in all, not the worst possible way to spend a Saturday night in New York.
