Altuzarra Fall 2015

by Dena Silver

Joseph Altuzarra has a keen knack for knowing what makes a woman’s body look incredible, and he definitely capitalized on this ability for Fall. His collection was feminine, sexy, and flattering, whether that took shape in slim tailored pants or chiffon dresses with sequined detailing. His starting point this season was Truman Capote’s swans, the writer’s close circle of chicsters that included the likes of Babe Paley, Lee Radziwell, CZ Guest, and Gloria Guinness. There was an air of whimsical sophistication, from a cotton candy pink Arctic fox coat to a white lace frock with a high neckline, a keyhole opening at the chest, and a thigh-high slit. There was an increased focus on outerwear this season, with coats ranging from a wool houndstooth number to a camel flounce-hem stunner, many tricked out with killer fur detailing.

Definitely keep tabs on Altuzarra’s debut handbag collection, as each one is bound to become an it-bag as soon as the first A-lister or editrix gets their hands on them. Titled the Notch collection, the sturdy bags feature intricate details such as tassels, braided straps, and touches of gold hardware. As for the chaussures, there was a mix of ankle- and knee-high boots done in a flurry of laces, ruffles, studs, and very pointy toes. An incredibly strong accessories debut for the designer, who’s poised to keep elevating and expanding his brand in a savvy (and editor-adored) way for years to come.
